Since I can remember, I have been writing and rewriting my baby name list. First it began as a way to name my dolls – Louise, Kate, Emma, Melanie, and Lucy.
But then I moved on to naming my future children with the boys I liked at school.
This, I guess, is the point at which I am today. So, I’ve taken a trip down memory lane and have gone through lots of my past diaries to give you an idea of the names I’ve considered.
However, I’ve left out my current favourites as they are pretty much the final list of names that my husband and I will name our children (more on that later!).
In the comments box below, I’d love it if you wanted to share your favourite names – past and/or present for us to check out. It’s interesting to see what names have been popular and are now out of fashion and which ones are coming in.
So, here’s to all the names I’ve loved…(in the order that I remembered them)

I like your blog – love the imagery! Some of my favourite names are Jack, Oscar, Emily and Steph. Do you think you have a longer list of girls names because you’re female? does it work like that?
Thanks for your feedback! You’ve got a great list of names – classic and steady names that remain popular whatever the fashion!
I don’t think it’s necessarily because I’m a female that I have a longer girl names list, I just love the imagery that girls name conjure up. With boys names, it is a little bit trickier to come up with something that doesn’t seem weak and timid but instead strong and sweet (and something that won’t be easy to pay out). With girls, I imagine what they would look like and feel like I have way more freedom to be imaginative than I do with boys!
Excellent blog! Love the psychology references as I am studying that too! My favourite names are Scarlett, Eve and Toby. Look forward to finding out your name L! I am going to guess Lily?
Haha thanks Katie for your comment – I am glad you’re enjoying it so far! Nice to see a fellow Psych student also interested in names
. I really like your names – great minds think alike!
Oh and I don’t think we’ll be revealing my name just yet!
Wow, great site… I really like your “A” names…very appropriate I think!
Amy
Thanks Amy! We’ll get to your name very soon!
ps your name? is it Larissah?
Hi L!
I like this blog! i’m into names too… probably not on the same scale as you I sense, but i used to do a lot of creative writing when i was younger, and my favourite part was naming the characters… i know i had to have an awkward conversation with my Mum when she found a baby name book in my room at 15.. Purely market research for my writing, but eep! How embarrassing! ha ha!
My favourite “pretty” girl names are Lily and Isobelle. My favourite quirky name for a girl is Kirby. I also loooove androgenous names, such as Alex, Toby and Harper (Harper as in Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird). My favourite all time boy/girl combo is Matilda and Banjo, and i thought my partner would totally go for this, but aparently not! (i can’t understand why!!
I have random other names that i like, but i know they’d never pass my partner’s critical appraisal, like Stella, Tobias, Nathaniel, Laurel… i could go on… Anyway, what would boys know about names!
Thanks for the great blog… keep it coming!
x
Hi Sammy! Thanks for your comment! Great names, I particularly love your pretty girls names – Lily and Isobelle go very well together.
I love how you had your first baby name book at 15, you can never start too young on the love of names. For me it was a major help in naming my dolls!
Glad you are loving the blog and keep the comments coming xx
